Vitamin D has been linked to an incredible number of health outcomes. In specific relation to cancer, it has been shown to be a strong protector against many types of cancer.
Recently, research led by Kimmie Ng, M.D., M.P.H., of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has revealed that vitamin D can improve the survival rates of people with colorectal cancer.
Part of the study team were researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Medical University of South Carolina.
The findings of this study are very significant because, in a way, they break new ground. While previous research had largely centered on how vitamin D levels reduce colorectal cancer incidence, this study has established a connection between vitamin D levels and the survival chances of people who have already gotten the disease.
